Rodeo Schools & Clinics

So you want to be a rodeo cowboy...

Behind the chutesThere are many different associations, schools and rodeos to attend throughout North America every year, however it can be frustrating trying to find out where to start. One of the first things that you should investigate, if your intent is to get involved with rodeo, is the availability of a quality rodeo school. These schools are taught by highly decorated rodeo cowboys who have enjoyed various levels of success in the sport already. These schools can help give you the advantage you need to become competitive in rodeo.

It will then become important to research various associations and rodeos in your area where you may be able to participate. There is a complete list of Rawhide Rodeos on our tour schedule pages, and more can be accessed by following the association links located in our Contestant section. These links will inform you on how to become a member of a recognized rodeo association along with some general information about the sport.

If you are still a high school student, one of the best ways to get involved in rodeo (and to make great friends!), is to join a high school rodeo association. The National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA) is made up of individual state and province high school rodeo associations. The NHSRA also has a Wrangler Junior Division for students in grades 6, 7 & 8. There is also a Little Britches Rodeo Association for youths aged 5 to 18. These associations allow you to compete for points and scholarship money and are a great way to gain experience before joining a professional association.

In the province of Ontario, Canada, we have the Ontario High School Rodeo Association (OHSRA). The OHSRA offers rodeo at the High School level (grades 9-12), the Junior High level (grades 5-8), and the Ontario Little Buckaroos (grades JK-4). Learn more about this great association at www.ohsra.ca.

Good luck and we hope to see you down the rodeo trail!
